ENTHRONEMENT ASSEMBLY DAILY DEVOTIONAL.
Wednesday 18th October, 2023.
Topic: Avoid Disobedience.
Memory Verse :1 Samuel 15:19. Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?
Bible Reading :1 Samuel 15:26-28. Key Verse: v28.
And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel. And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent. And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.
This time in the history of Israel, God sent king Saul to go and destroy everything that had life in Amalek. The instructions was that nothing shoud be spared, both human and animals. “Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass. And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.”
1 Samuel 15:2-4.
When King Saul got to Amalek, he saw good, fat and clean animals and made up his mind to go with them. He killed those animals he felt won’t be useful to him and took those he coveted. He even spared Agag the king, all to incure the wrath of God.
“But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly. Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying, It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.” 1 Samuel 15:9-11.
This act of disobedience made God to take the kingdom away from Saul and give to David who proved to be better in the sense that he always trembled at the word of the Lord to obey him.” And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou. And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.” 1 Samuel 15:9-11. Today we must learn to avoid walking in partial obedience because that amounts to outright disobedience before the Lord. Saul went to war as instructed, but didn’t execute the war according to given instructions. We must not try to help God at any point in time, not even ourselves. Just do it the way God said it should be done and you will always be blessed.
Prayer : Thank you Father God for teaching me obedience through the lives of men of old. From today, give me a heart that fears you. I want to be one who always tremble at your word to obey you all my days as my father, in Jesus blessed name…. Amen🙏🏿.
Yearly Bible Reading : Acts 8:1-25.
