One day when Jesus was praying alone, the disciples came to him. “Who do the crowds say I am?” he asked them. “Some say that you are John the Baptist,” they answered. “Others say that you are Elijah, while others say that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.” “What about you?” he asked them. “Who do you say I am?”Peter answered, “You are God’s Messiah.”
Jesus had just finished feeding five thousand men excluding women and children with 5 loaves of bread and two fishes. Everyone in attendance ate to their satisfaction and they had twelve baskets of leftover. Now in his normal way, Christ retreated to pray and refresh. There in the place of prayer, his disciples came to him and he began to ask them what they think about him or whom they take him for. They began to furnish him with different perspectives of what men say or think about him. Different people, saw him in different light. They mostly took him to be a great prophet or one dead great prophet come back to life, which wasn’t true of him. Finally he brought the question home to his disciples, to know whom themselves who had been with him thought he was. Peter was quick to identify him for whom he really was. ““Some say that you are John the Baptist,” they answered. “Others say that you are Elijah, while others say that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.” “What about you?” he asked them. “Who do you say I am?”Peter answered, “You are God’s Messiah.”” Luke 9:19-20.
Some years back, when I was in Benin Republic, I discovered that the locals there care less about Christmas, but roll out their drums and do everything they can afford to celebrate new year and make it fun. One day I was discussing with a local, and asked him why they hardly celebrated Christmas, but keep vigil all over on 31st night and celebrate all day on 1st January of every year. He replied me that Christmas is just the celebration of the birth of a child, while the new year marks God’s preservation from a pastyear into a new year. He explained that the fact that God preserved your life into a new year is worth celebrating than the birth of a child. Even with my explanations of the importance of the birth of a saviour and that this child was God in human form, that made little or no impact on him changing his stand. That was because, he saw Jesus as an ordinary child and not God, creator of all things, a saviour, deliverer or Messiah, etc. Many people who run around because of Christmas around the world today are just like my Beninoise friend who see Christ as an ordinary child. Because of what they take him for, he is not able to impact their lives for a change.
“you and everyone else in Israel should know that it is by the power of the name of Jesus that the crippled man stands here today completely healed! You crucified Jesus Christ of Nazareth, but God raised him from the dead. This Jesus is ‘the stone that you, the builders, have rejected, and now he has become the cornerstone!’ There is no one else who has the power to save us, for there is only one name to whom God has given authority by which we must experience salvation: the name of Jesus.”” Acts 4:10-12 TPT. Apostle Peter speaking under the influence of the Holy Spirit here was very succinct before the Sanhedrin who was questioning them on how they were able to heal a man lame from birth who had lived all his life begging. Suddenly, his life was changed and he was given the opportunity have a good life just by the name of Jesus because he is God and not an ordinary prophet or any stuff like that.
Prayer :Thank you Lord Jesus because you are God and saviour of the world. Open the eyes of my understanding to know you the more, so that I can take advantage of every resources available in you to have a good earthly life and finish strong at the end in Jesus wonderful name….. Amen 🙏🏿.
