Topic :Keep Your Trust With The Lord.

Memory Verse :2 Chronicles 16:9. The Lord keeps close watch over the whole world, to give strength to those whose hearts are loyal to him. You have acted foolishly, and so from now on you will always be at war.”

Bible Reading :2 Chronicles 16:6-8 GNB. Key Verse : v7.

Then King Asa gathered men from throughout Judah and ordered them to carry off the stones and timber that Baasha had been using at Ramah, and they used them to fortify the cities of Geba and Mizpah. At that time the prophet Hanani went to King Asa and said, “Because you relied on the king of Syria instead of relying on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Israel has escaped from you. Didn’t the Ethiopians and the Libyans have large armies with many chariots and horsemen? But because you relied on the Lord, he gave you victory over them.

Asa did very well when he ascended the throne in the stead of his father Abijah who was no more in the land of Judah. At the beginning of his reign he trusted in God in times of trouble and wars. When enemies who appeared more formidable than himself came like a flood to sweep him away, he ran to the Lord for help. He humbled himself to seek the face of the Lord, and the Lord delivered him and gave him victory. Asa restored the reading of the law and ministry of the priests and the service of of the people to God of heaven and earth. Because he pleased the Lord, he was encouraged and helped of the Lord till he became great and powerful. He had 35 years of rest from wars which helped him to build a healthy and prosperous economy and nation.

This time because he was prosperous, he became lazy in seeking the Lord. When king Baasha of idolatrous Israel came up against him, instead of going back to the Lord for help for the strength to overcome his enemies as he had done in the past, he ran to the king of Syria because this time he believed that he had what it takes to hire allies. “So Asa took silver and gold from the treasuries of the Temple and the palace and sent it to Damascus, to King Benhadad of Syria, with this message: “Let us be allies, as our fathers were. This silver and gold is a present for you. Now break your alliance with King Baasha of Israel so that he will have to pull his troops out of my territory.”” 2 Chronicles 16:2-3..

This faulty move of Asa had severe spiritual consequences. Asa by this singular move submitted his territory to the enemy to live at their mercy instead of being in charge by the help of God, where they should be afraid of him and his God who helped him that far. This time he couldn’t enjoy the victory the Lord would have given him over his enemies. Though he had initial successful collaboration with Benhadad of Syria, the short and long term consequences was detrimental. “Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD! Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.” Isaiah 31:1,3. Today we have to learn to always depend on the Lord for help and not men. He is a jealous God that created us to depend on him and not fellow men. When we are faced with challenges, we should humbly seek him for help. He has what it takes to give us victory in every battles of life, when we put our trust in him.

Prayer :Thank you Father God because you are able to fight all my battles and give me victory. Thank you because of your faithfulness in the affairs of them who trust in you. From today, I hand over all my battles to you, fight for me and give me victory in Jesus wonderful name…… Amen 🙏🏿.
