Memory Verse :Matthew 8:3. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
Bible Reading :Matthew 8:1-2,4 KJV. Key Verse : v2.
When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Jesus Christ lived a prayerful life while he walked on the surface of earth as a man. Most time he separated himself to the mountains to pray after his daily activities and to prepare himself for the next day. That was the secret behind the miracles and awesome testimonies that his earthly ministry was known for. Some of the times he took some of his disciples along with him to the place of prayer so that they could learn from his personal life. When they saw the effect of prayer on his ministry, they had to approach him to teach them the way to pray and carry power or command results, just like himself. He left us an example to follow therefore as believers in living lifestyles of prayer. “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to teach them that they should always pray and never become discouraged.” Luke 18:1 GNB.
This time, as he came down from the mountain or the place of prayer, people were waiting for him already. Many of them came as spectators, not having any serious business they intend to transact with him. I want to believe that some had problems he could solve but was not serious about getting his attention to meet their needs. Such men came as spectators to make up the crowd as to tell the stories of what happened after they were gone. In the main text, this particular leper made up his mind that it was the day for him to receive a touch of healing from Jesus, even before he came for that particular meeting. He made sure he stayed where he could get the attention of the Master himself. When he met Jesus he went ahead to open his encounter with worship to get his unreserved attention in the first place. After he worshipped the Lord, he humbly acknowledged the fact that Jesus had what it takes to heal him, should he desire to do so.
Some of the lessons in this encounter includes that anytime we are coming to God’s presence, we should always come with a business mindset. Many people don’t have understanding of what God can do when we are in his presence. Such men therefore come to God’s presence casually and go back with the problems God can solve in his presence, simply because they don’t know how to move the hand of God in their favour. The second lesson here is the fact that the leper first worshipped the master to get his attention and open up a conversation. We must learn that God can’t resist a true worshipper. Anytime we worship God from the depths of our hearts, we move him to the point of moving to meet our needs, even before we are able to ask.
Prayer :Thank you Lord Jesus because of your love that brought me into a life of fellowship with you. Help me to live with the consciousness that you can always do all things. As I worship you today, do great and mighty things in my life in Jesus wonderful name….. Amen 🙏🏿.
Yearly Bible Reading : Acts 7:1-29.
