Topic :Living Beyond The Ordinary.
Memory Verse : Genesis 14:14. When Abram heard that his nephew had been captured, he called together all the fighting men in his camp, 318 in all, and pursued the four kings all the way to Dan.
Bible Reading : Genesis 14:10-12 GNB. Key Verse : v12.
The valley was full of tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah tried to run away from the battle, they fell into the pits; but the other three kings escaped to the mountains. The four kings took everything in Sodom and Gomorrah, including the food, and went away. Lot, Abram’s nephew, was living in Sodom, so they took him and all his possessions.
This time Kings is the region where Abraham sojourned with his nephew Lot was at war against each other. There was alignment of kings of nations against other confederate nations. It happened that the battle didn’t favour the people of Sodom and Gomorrah where Lot and his family resided. They were overcome at the battlefield and their soldiers who survived it escaped for their lives and the city was plundered and the inhabitants was taken captive including Lot, his family and all he had. One who escaped brought the sad news of what happened to Abraham in Mamre where he resided.
When the news of the capture of Lot and and everything he had came to Abraham, he swung into action without delays. He numbered as well as armed his trained servants who grew up under his tutelage or mentorship. They pursued the captors of his nephew and family. They were able to get clue of their whereabouts. They had to pursue, launch attack on the predators, overcome them and recover not only Lot and family, but others who was taken captive. They also brought back the goods these confedration of nations carried away from Sodom and Gomorrah. “There he divided his men into groups, attacked the enemy by night, and defeated them. He chased them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus, and recovered the loot that had been taken. He also brought back his nephew Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other prisoners.” Genesis 14:15-16.
Today we have to learn from the story of Abraham engagement with and victory over the army of nations that fought and plundered Sodom and Gomorrah that what we need to prevail in every battles of life is God’s mighty hand in our camp or divine presence. There’s no other way one can explain that a single individual will have the audacity to face the armies of a nation, not to talk of about four nations. The battle armies of nations lost, Abraham was able to turn around with his men. His confidence in going after the people who took his nephew captive was a bye product of his walk with God. Daniel rightly wrote that when evil and wickedness will be on the rise, those who know their God will muster courage for exploits. Such men will derive their strength from what they are sure the God they know and serve can and will always do when need arises. Today, we have to learn that no man carrying the presence of God in life is permitted to live an ordinary life. The Holy Spirit living is us is the Spirit of excellence and exploits. The strength of Abraham can be traced to the fact that he lived to hear or take instructions continously from God who is the father of all Spirits.
Prayer :Thank you Father God because of your presence in my life. Thank you for giving me your Spirit who is here to help me live like you and do great things only you can do. By the help of your Spirit, I begin to turn around everything and situation to work in my favour forever in Jesus wonderful name….. Amen 🙏🏿.
Yearly Bible Reading : John 13:21-38.
