Topic : Retaining Divine Blessings.
Memory Verse: Deuteronomy 8:9. There you will never go hungry or ever be in need. Its rocks have iron in them, and from its hills you can mine copper.
Bible Reading : Deuteronomy 8:6-8 GNB. Key Verse : v6.
So then, do as the Lord has commanded you: live according to his laws and obey him. The Lord your God is bringing you into a fertile land — a land that has rivers and springs, and underground streams gushing out into the valleys and hills; a land that produces wheat and barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and honey.
In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses gave his final exhortations to the children of Israel before he went to be with the Lord. In this chapter, he was trying to let them know what it takes to retain the blessings of the Lord which they received or were about to receive. This is very important to look at because even in our days some are not able to retain what they received from the Lord. Others are there who limit God in their lives because of their attitude or the way the handle what they received already. Their attitude in handling what they received, hinder them from enjoying further promotions or divine upgrade. Sometimes such people think they are doing well being short sighted in their behaviours, not knowing what they are missing.
From this very chapter, there are timeless lessons I want us to learn about walking with God. One of them includes that for anyone to arrive at a place of abundance fulfillment, he must have passed through a time and process of preparation which will include a wilderness experience. This time of preparation is allowed by God in order to instil character in us, so that the blessings coming upon our lives doesn’t have control over us, because we love the Lord above that which he blesses us with. “He made you go hungry, and then he gave you manna to eat, food that you and your ancestors had never eaten before. He did this to teach you that human beings must not depend on bread alone to sustain them, but on everything that the Lord says. During these forty years your clothes have not worn out, nor have your feet swollen up.” Deuteronomy 8:3-4. See Romans 5:1-5.
Another lesson we should pick from the words of Moses here in this chapter is that a walk with God in the paths of obedience to his commands is key to walking in lasting blessings from his presence. There people who are careful and obedient when they have little or nothing, by the time they begin to swim in answers to their prayers, they become careless and disobedient to divine command because they want to do it their own way. We must learn that the Lord is always with us as long we seek, obey and honour him as our father and creator. That’s when we get the best of him. But if anyone should turn round to behave otherwise, the person will be digging his/her own grave. “Remember that it is the Lord your God who gives you the power to become rich. He does this because he is still faithful today to the covenant that he made with your ancestors. Never forget the Lord your God or turn to other gods to worship and serve them. If you do, then I warn you today that you will certainly be destroyed.” Deuteronomy 8:18-19.
Prayer :Thank you Father God because it is your will that I retain every good thing and blessing I receive from you. Today, I ask that you grant me a humble, grateful, obedient and respectful spirit in my walk with you. Keep me in the paths of faithfulness, so that I retain every blessing I received from you in Jesus wonderful name….. Amen!🙏🏿.
Yearly Bible Reading : Exodus 13:17-14:31.
