Topic :Empowered By The Spirit To Obey.

Memory Verse : Deuteronomy 8:4. During these forty years your clothes have not worn out, nor have your feet swollen up.

Bible Reading : Deuteronomy 8:1-3 GNB. Key Verse : v3.

“Obey faithfully all the laws that I have given you today, so that you may live, increase in number, and occupy the land which the Lord promised to your ancestors. Remember how the Lord your God led you on this long journey through the desert these past forty years, sending hardships to test you, so that he might know what you intended to do and whether you would obey his commands. He made you go hungry, and then he gave you manna to eat, food that you and your ancestors had never eaten before. He did this to teach you that human beings must not depend on bread alone to sustain them, but on everything that the Lord says.

The book of Deuteronomy contains the last words that Moses delivered to the children of Israel before he went to be with the Lord. It is true that we are no more relating with God based on the Tora or the law as was given to Moses. At the same time, it is good to note that no man can have a deep walk with God without first understanding his nature and character. God revealed his nature and character to Moses and the people of Israel in his dealings with them. The new covenant of grace and mercy we operate didn’t alter the nature or character of God. Rather grace postpones divine judgement for the sinner or offender as long as the sinner is still alive, with hope that such individual or people takes advantage of season of grace to repent or turn away from their evil ways and be pardoned. 2 Peter 3:9.

Even today, any man God must entrust great things into his hands must be tested. Jesus Christ himself though he was the son of God, because he had a human nature in him, was also tested because that is God’s way of approving every human he needs to depend on to anchor his plan and purposes on earth. Jesus himself after he fasted 40 days and nights in readiness to commence his earthly ministry was carried by the Spirit of God to a wilderness where he was subjected to some test. It was after he passed the test that he came down qualified to carry the power of God to meet the needs of mankind. In one of the responses Jesus gave the temper, he emphasised the words of Moses as contained in our main text. “It was then the devil said to him, “If you are really the Son of God, command this stone to turn into a loaf of bread for you.” Jesus replied, “I will not! For it is written in the Scriptures, ‘Life does not come only from eating bread but from God. Life flows from every revelation from his mouth.’”” Luke 4:3-4 TPT.

“Jesus answered him, “The most important of all the commandments is this: ‘The Lord Yahweh, our God, is one!’ You are to love the Lord Yahweh, your God, with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, with every thought that is within you, and with all your strength. This is the great and supreme commandment. And the second is this: ‘You must love your neighbor in the same way you love yourself.’ You will never find a greater commandment than these.”” Mark 12:29-31 TPT. Now in this dispensation of grace, all it takes for us to obey the commandments of God is to walk in love. Now the Holy Spirit given to us by God is the one who empowers us obey the Lord with joy too through the channel of love. “And patient endurance will refine our character, and proven character leads us back to hope. And this hope is not a disappointing fantasy, because we can now experience the endless love of God cascading into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in us!” Romans 5:4-5 TPT.

Prayer :Thank you Father God for giving me your Spirit. Help me to always walk in your love by your Spirit residing in me. Thank you because I love you, I will always obey your voice with joy all my days in Jesus precious name….. Amen 🙏🏿.
