Memory Verse :2 Samuel 9:5. Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.
Bible Reading : 2 Samuel 9:1-3. Key Verse : v1.
And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake? And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he. And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.
David and Jonathan were blossom friends. From the first day God lifted David from being an ordinary shepherd boy in Israel to a national hero and he began to live in the palace of king saul, he had a connection with Jonathan. They loved each other, shared much in common and God used Jonathan to protect the interest of David in the palace and to preserve him from the ragings of king Saul. “And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.” 1 Samuel 18:1-3.
The love and kindness of Jonathan was what saved David from the schemes of king Saul, who was out to bring him down to pave way for his son Jonathan to ascend the throne of Israel after him, but God had a different plan. When every efforts to stop David through dangerous assignments didn’t get him out of the way, Saul wanted to track him down during the new moon celebration when it was mandatory that all the officials of the palace including David should dine together with the king. “And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, to morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even. If thy father at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city: for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family. If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be very wroth, then be sure that evil is determined by him.” 1 Samuel 20:5-7. Through the spying mission of Jonathan to the father, it was discovered that King Saul really wanted to eliminate David. Jonathan had to help him flee to safety.
This time after David prevailed and entered into God’s plan for his life to be king over Israel, he remembered the love and kindness Jonathan showed him that preserved his life and made his glorious destiny possible. He came out then to appreciate and honour his friend who was dead and gone. He wanted to know if there was anyone left alive in the house of Saul to bless because of his relationship with Jonathan. Now when Ziba the chief servant of Saul was brought on, he revealed that Jonathan still had a son who was alive but lame. That was how the journey of unsolicited recovery and sudden change begin the life of Mephiboshet. That was how he left Lodeba to eat at the table of king David the rest of his life. Not only that, all the properties of late king Saul was restored him. Today, the Lord will cause men that matters to remember you for good reasons. Every good seed of love and kindness you sowed selflessly in the past will begin to produce in the name of Jesus.
Prayer :Thank you Father God for your glorious plan for my life that cannot be truncated. Today, cause men that matters to remember me for good. Let favour usher me into unsolicited blessings. Let every seed of love and kindness I sowed into the lives of other men begin to yield in the might name of Jesus…. Amen 🙏🏿.
