Topic : Do Whatever He Tells You.
Memory Verse :John 2:5. Jesus’ mother then told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Bible Reading :John 2:1-4 GNB. Key Verse : v4.
Two days later there was a wedding in the town of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine had given out, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no wine left.” “You must not tell me what to do,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”
At this point in time Jesus Christ had not done any miracle publicly that could draw the attention of men to him, but God was using him to do great things at home as he grew up. The mother knew him better than anyone else, knowing what transpired between herself and the angel of God that resulted in her conception, she was not surprised that he was being used to do strange things at home while he grew up. You know that the John rightly said that no singular book on earth can contain all the miracles done by Jesus Christ, even during his public earthly ministry. The ones captured in the Bible that men who stayed with him documented are enough to prove to all who care that he is God and the creator manifested in the flesh. Coming back to the story at hand, Jesus was invited to this particular marriage feast that held in Cana of Galilee with his disciples.
“Jesus and his disciples were all invited to the banquet, but with so many guests in attendance, they ran out of wine. And when Mary realized it, she came to him and asked, “They have no wine, can’t you do something about it?” Jesus replied, “My dear one, don’t you understand that if I do this, it won’t change anything for you, but it will change everything for me! My hour of unveiling my power has not yet come.” John 2:2-4. TPT. Jesus and his disciples didn’t arrive on time for this marriage feast. But fortunately for the host, he arrived at a time when his presence was mostly needed. By the time he arrived, the host had ran out of wine because probably he had more response from guests beyond his expectations. Mary knowing the value his his son Jesus could bring to the table at difficult times, went to him and asked him to help out in that situation.
Initially he was reluctant, but later helped them out by performing his first public miracle which made even his disciples believe in him the more. He simply asked them to fill the empty jars there with ordinary water. After they had done that, they came back to him for the next line of instructions. This time he commanded them to serve the people wine from those jars. “and then he told them, “Now draw some water out and take it to the man in charge of the feast.” They took him the water, which now had turned into wine, and he tasted it. He did not know where this wine had come from (but, of course, the servants who had drawn out the water knew); so he called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone else serves the best wine first, and after the guests have had plenty to drink, he serves the ordinary wine. But you have kept the best wine until now!” John 2:8-10. Today, our take home is that obedience to divine instructions is key to securing his intervention anytime we need it.
Prayer :Thank you Lord Jesus because you will never fail nor disappoint me. Thank you because your presence in my life won’t allow me suffer any shame. Help me to always follow your instructions in difficult times. Thank you because you will always be there for me in Jesus wonderful name…. Amen 🙏🏿.
