Topic : Follow Divine Instructions.
Memory Verse : Deuteronomy 2:3. Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
Bible Reading : Deuteronomy 2:24-26 KJV. Key Verse : v24.
Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee. And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,.
While the people of Israel journeyed from Egypt to Canaan under the leadership of Moses, the Lord was with them directing their affairs. They spent many days going round a circle around Mount Seir as Moses awaited the next instruction or move of God. Now the Lord finally instructed that they make progress going northwards. All the way they always followed divine instructions. There were people God didn’t permit them to fight because he wasn’t willing to give theland occupied by such people to them. “And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore: Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession. Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.” Deuteronomy 2:4-6. The couldn’t fight such people, except when they refuse them peaceful passage.
Now, at some other time, the Lord gave them express instruction to spy, fight, destroy the enemy and posses the land where such people inhabited. At this point in time, the Lord didn’t permit the people of Israel to fight the children of Ammon because they were descendants of Lot and therefore their brothers. However the people of Ammon rejected their pleas to be allowed to pass through their land peacefully and buy anything they needed with money. “Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet; (As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us. But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.” Deuteronomy 2:28-31.
Today we must learn not engage in senseless battles. In our walk with God there are battles we have to avoid, that is when we don’t have the backing of the Lord to get involved. If you watch Moses in the journey, you will discover that he never lost any battle. The secret behind it all was his adherence to divine instructions. When he followed the directives of the Lord, anyone who didn’t comply with him became a casualty because they strayed into the zone of the wrath of God which consumed them. Many people today ran into problems because they engaged in battles that is not meant for them and therefore lacked the backing of the most high. “Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.” Zechariah 4:5-7.
Prayer : Thank you Lord Jesus because you are the captain of my warfare. Help to discern your leading in the journey of life all my days. Keep me from assumptions and involvement in battles without your backing. Thank you for keeping me safe till everlasting victory in Jesus wonderful name….. Amen 🙏🏿.
