ENTHRONEMENT ASSEMBLY DAILY DEVOTIONALS.

Tuesday July 30th, 2024.

Topic : Living To Please God.

Memory Verse : Deuteronomy 7:6. Do this because you belong to the Lord your God. From all the peoples on earth he chose you to be his own special people.

Bible Reading : Deuteronomy 7:3-5 GNB. Key Verse :v4.

Do not marry any of them, and do not let your children marry any of them, because then they would lead your children away from the Lord to worship other gods. If that happens, the Lord will be angry with you and destroy you at once. So then, tear down their altars, break their sacred stone pillars in pieces, cut down the symbols of their goddess Asherah, and burn their idols.

I always tell people that God revealed his character in the old testament, in his dealings with the people of Israel and men of old. That character of God as revealed and his demands for reverence from men didn’t change even now. The only difference in this dispensation of grace is that his dealings with us is tied to what Jesus has done for us on the cross. Having borne the punishment for sin on our behalf, when we believe in him, we are able to escape the judgement and attendant punishment for sin through Jesus our saviour. As we enjoy this grace, we have also to observe those commands of God given to men of old as to obey them because they are still relevant in our days to secure our walk with him. For example, we can’t start coveting what belongs to others because of grace or be stealing from others and still feel that it doesn’t matter because Jesus died for our sins. “So far as the Law is concerned, however, I am dead — killed by the Law itself — in order that I might live for God. I have been put to death with Christ on his cross,
so that it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. This life that I live now, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave his life for me.” Galatians 2:19-10.

In the passage above (Bible Reading), we see God warning the people of Israel that as he brings them into Canaan the land of promise, they must stay away from defiling themselves with idol worship. He made them to remember that those nations as listed in Deuteronomy 7:1 were dispossesed because of their thirst for rebellion to the commands of the Almighty and their appetite for idol woshp. God took a step further to warn that Israel should not spare the people neither should they intermarry with them to avoid these idol worshipping nations influencing them to follow their ways and sin against God and incure his wrath. “The Lord your God will bring you into the land which you are going to occupy, and he will drive many nations out of it. As you advance, he will drive out seven nations larger and more powerful than you: the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. “When the Lord your God places these people in your power and you defeat them, you must put them all to death. Do not make an alliance with them or show them any mercy.” Deuteronomy 7:1-2.

The lesson here today is that grace changes men and empowers us to obey and live for the one who took our place in judgement and died, so that we can enjoy forgiveness. Now can be seen as the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. Like the Isrealites of old, we are to flush out everything in and around us that wants to take us back to where we were coming from before we met the Lord in order to remain in his love. “So then, my brothers and sisters, we have an obligation, but it is not to live as our human nature wants us to. For if you live according to your human nature, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death your sinful actions, you will live. Those who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s children.” Romans 8:12-14.

Prayer : Thank you Lord Jesus for saving me, so that I can live for you. By your Spirit of grace, help me to to put death in me anything that doesn’t glorify you. Help me to live to honour you who died for me all my days in Jesus precious name… Amen 🙏🏿.

Yearly Bible Reading : John 8:21-59.
