Topic : Kingdom Greatness.

Memory Verse : James 4:6. But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. KJV

Bible Reading : Matthew 18:2-4 TPT. Key Verse : v3.

Jesus called a little one to his side and said to them, “Learn this well: Unless you dramatically change your way of thinking and become teachable, and learn about heaven’s kingdom realm with the wide-eyed wonder of a child, you will never be able to enter in. Whoever continually humbles himself to become like this gentle child is the greatest one in heaven’s kingdom realm.

At this point in time, the disciples of Jesus Christ came to him to find out what it takes to be great in the kingdom. As men they nursed the desire or ambition for greatness or doing great things in the kingdom. The master then brought a child and set before them and explained to them that if anyone must be great in the kingdom, he must walk before the Lord with mentality of a child. I want to believe that that wasn’t what they expected as a response, but that was what they got. This agrees with the fact that God doesn’t approach issues or measure things the way men do. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 KJV.

Jesus was just trying to let them and ourselves know first that the things of the kingdom of God is regulated by the principle of GRACE and not struggles and unhealthy ambitions. In accessing grace, all we need is to meet God’s conditions for anything we desire from him and we shall have such. Grace doesn’t make us robots, rather it helps us to understand our inability to get there without God himself, so that we learn to lean on him and not our human understanding of how it should be done. God designed grace to tame man and his pride in personal achievements because of his efforts. You know that a child hardly do anything for himself, rather he humbly submits to the leadership of the parents with a simple heart, who takes responsibility for his general wellbeing as well as provides all he needs to succeed.

Another dimension to what Jesus taught them through the child is that men become great before the Lord only when they have teachable spirit. The child trusts his/her parents unwaveringly to a fault. They can take the instructions of their parents to the bank anyday and anytime. Children are very plyable because they are learners. We can see that demonstrated in the life of father Abraham. He followed God like a child without settling with God where the destination of the journey he was undertaking must be. This obedience from a simple heart paid off. When God commanded him to go to Mount moriah and offer Isaac the one and only son of promise, he didn’t argue, but obeyed. The more he followed the leading of the Lord, the higher he was climbing in the spirit, till he became the earthly father of all who believes before the Lord. “That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.”

Genesis 22:17-18 KJV.

Prayer :Thank you Father God for whom you love, you instruct. Help me to always follow you humbly like a child. Let me obey your instructions from a simple heart without doubts because of my confidence in you. Thank you for leading me in the paths of greatness in Jesus precious name…… Amen 🙏🏿.

Yearly Bible Reading : Mathew 18:10-22.
