Memory Verse :1 Kings 94. If you will serve me in honesty and integrity, as your father David did, and if you obey my laws and do everything I have commanded you,
Bible Reading : 1 Kings 9:5-7 GNB. Key Verse : v5.
I will keep the promise I made to your father David when I told him that Israel would always be ruled by his descendants. But if you or your descendants stop following me, if you disobey the laws and commands I have given you, and worship other gods, then I will remove my people Israel from the land that I have given them. I will also abandon this Temple which I have consecrated as the place where I am to be worshipped. People everywhere will ridicule Israel and treat her with contempt.
From the beginning of creation, God was very specific to let man understand that he was different from every other creature. Man was made in the image and likeness of God, so that God can relate with him, as well as express himself in him and through him. That is the reason man was made a ruler over every other things created by God. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” Genesis 1:27-29 KJV.
If you study the Bible closely, you will discover that as many as lived their lives to fulfill God’s purpose and plan became great and exceptionally successful because they enjoyed special privileges from his presence. Coming to King Solomon whom we are looking at what transpired between him and God, we will understand that he was able to warn himself into the heart of God on time during his reign as king after his father David, because he prioritised divine assignment and purpose in his life. When he had opportunity to ask anything he wanted from God, he kept his personal needs aside to demand for wisdom to use and work for God and his people. That became the turning point in his life. “And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.. For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.” 1 Kings 4:29-31 KJV.
After king Solomon built and dedicated the temple to God for his worship to the best of his ability, the Lord appeared to him for a second time to validate the covenant of perpetuity of blessing he had with his father David. For Solomon to continue to enjoy the best of God and pass same to the next generation, he needed to serve the Lord in honesty and integrity of heart just like David himself. He needed to obey the laws and commands of the Lord in everything. Even today, the blessings God gave our fathers in the Bible are still available in our days. It is possible for us to walk closely with him and live in his presence the rest of our days, only when we consciously decide to walk in his ways, just like the fathers. We have to study their lives as to know those things they did that made God commit himself to them in such a manner he did, as to follow their examples. Again we have study to know those areas they made mistakes as to avoid same. God documented their lives and dealings through men and by the help of the Holy Spirit, so that ourselves can through them learn wisdom. “All these things happened to them as examples for others, and they were written down as a warning for us. For we live at a time when the end is about to come.” 1 Corinthians 10.
Prayer :Thank you Father God for teaching me your wisdom that preserve generations through your dealings with men of old. Help me to always prioritise living for you and doing your will just like themselves. Let my heart be such that is acceptable before you always. Help me to live to please you all my days in Jesus wonderful name….. Amen 🙏🏿.
Yearly Bible Reading : Mathew 27:57-66.
