Topic : Living For The Prize.
Memory Verse :1 Corinthians 9:27. but I train like a champion athlete. I subdue my body and get it under my control, so that after preaching the good news to others I myself won’t be disqualified.
Bible Reading : 1 Corinthians 9:24-26 TPT. Key Verse : v25.
Isn’t it obvious that all runners on the racetrack keep on running to win, but only one receives the victor’s prize? Yet each one of you must run the race to be victorious. A true athlete will be disciplined in every respect, practicing constant self-control in order to win a laurel wreath that quickly withers. But we run our race to win a victor’s crown that will last forever. For that reason, I don’t run just for exercise or box like one throwing aimless punches,
Christianity is a life of relationship with God that carries purpose. The purpose of this relationship is to shape our lives to become men God can depend on to carry out his divine agenda here on earth. We therefore need to enter into our relationship with our creator with understanding of what he desires from us and try to figure out how we can always live our lives not to defeat the purpose of this very important relationship with our God. This purpose of God can only find expression when we submit to the authority of Jesus Christ, which gives him the right to bear rule over our lives, by the help of the Holy Spirit.
If we study the life of Apostle Paul as recorded in this 1 Corinthians chapter 9, we will see some important factors that will help our Christianity to be on sound footing as leaders and kingdom influencers. The first factor is that influence and leadership in the kingdom demands a life of sacrifice. Another important factor is that leadership in the kingdom demands living to be considerate of others. Another factor that helps a kingdom leader as seen here is the ability to adapt to circumstances, situations and people. This involves a life of necessary adjustments while handling different people and situations in order to get the best of such. “I became “weak” to the weak to win the weak. I have adapted to the culture of every place I’ve gone so that I could more easily win people to Christ. I’ve done all this so that I would become God’s partner for the sake of the gospel.” 1 Corinthians 9:22-23.
On a most important note, every believer at any level of leadership or influence must have a heavenly mindset to stay on course always. When Paul is talking about the ultimate prize, he is talking about finishing strong at the feet of Jesus Christ where we are to receive an everlasting crown. In the earthly realm, only one athlete receives the main prize which becomes history with time, but in heaven, every winner receives the prize of eternal life in his presence. However, no one can win the heavenly crown, without having the mindset of being the best from among the crowd of people. This crown of glory can’t be possible outside a disciplined life. We have to set targets for ourselves as men walking with God. Our ultimate target must be to spend eternity with Jesus. This goal will help regulate our life to avoid being disqualified from obtaining the crown at the end of our earthly journey.
Prayer : Thank you Lord Jesus for redeeming my soul from destruction. Help me by your Spirit to live and lead by example anywhere I find myself in the kingdom. Keep me focused on the crown of victory. Keep me from from every distractions till I meet you in victory in Jesus wonderful name…. Amen 🙏🏿.
Yearly Bible Reading : Luke 18:1-14.
