Bible Reading : Acts 9:10-12 GNB. Key Verse : v11.
There was a believer in Damascus named Ananias. He had a vision, in which the Lord said to him, “Ananias!”“Here I am, Lord,” he answered. The Lord said to him, “Get ready and go to Straight Street, and at the house of Judas ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying, and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come in and place his hands on him so that he might see again.”
Saul was a prominent figure in the persecution of the early Church. He was trying to fight for or defend his Jewish religion (Judaism). He was dwelling in the past like many unbelieving Jews who was blind to the words of prophecy proclaiming about Jesus, his birth, suffering /death, resurrection and mission on earth. When God was unfolding the new covenant of grace with mankind through the early Church, Saul felt like one who could fight for the living God his fathers. He played a prominent role in the killing of Stephen for the sake of the gospel. Coming out fresh from the murder of Stephen, now he was heading to Damascus to conduct a raid on all who were following the way of Jesus Christ who was fleeing the early persecution. He was armed with an authorisation letter to arrest every believer in Christ he could lay hands on and bring them back to Jerusalem to be tried and killed.
“and asked for letters of introduction to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he should find there any followers of the Way of the Lord, he would be able to arrest them, both men and women, and bring them back to Jerusalem. As Saul was coming near the city of Damascus, suddenly a light from the sky flashed round him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul! Why do you persecute me?” “Who are you, Lord?” he asked. “I am Jesus, whom you persecute,” the voice said. “But get up and go into the city, where you will be told what you must do.”” Acts 9:2-6. The experience was so shocking and strong that Saul had to enter compulsory fasting for 3 days seeking the mercy of God who arrested him before he could cause more harm to his kingdom.
Jesus Christ as proven in the scriptures is a living God. He is no more in the grave. He arose from the dead on the 3rd day and was seen by many witnesses including his early disciples. When he went back to heaven, it wasn’t in the secret. His disciples was there with him on the mount of Olives. He gave them important instructions, as he was done with them, he was taken into the heavens before their eyes. They came out with him, but returned without him to wait for Pentecost in the place of prayer, as he instructed them Acts 1:1-12. He lives foremore. Today, we have to take advantage of all he did by making up our mind to serve him. He is a loving creator and father. He has shown us enough love by taking our place in the judgment seat of God to pay the price of sin to meet the demands of divine justice. He gave up his life willingly and took it up when he desired, no power could stop him. “After saying this, he was taken up to heaven as they watched him, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They still had their eyes fixed on the sky as he went away, when two men dressed in white suddenly stood beside them and said, “Galileans, why are you standing there looking up at the sky? This Jesus, who was taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way that you saw him go to heaven.”” Acts 1:9-11. Today, the question is how prepared are you for his second coming? He is coming back in his power and glory to judge all his enemies, all who didn’t allow him to bear rule over their lives.
Prayer : Thank you Lord Jesus because you are the living God. Thank you for taking my place in the place of judgement and dying to save me from sin and destruction. Because you died for me, I make up my mind to live for you and you alone all my days in Jesus precious name…. Amen 🙏🏿.
Yearly Bible Reading : Mathew 28:8-16.
