Topic :Follow Him To Be Made.

Memory Verse :‭Luke 9:59. He said to another man, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

Bible Reading : Luke 9:60-62 NIV‬. Key Verse :v62

Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.” Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

At the beginning of the unfolding of this particular incident in the Bible, Jesus was walking along the way when someone came to him and voluntarily offered to follow him. But the man was there for the wrong reasons. There was no genuine intention to serve deep down inside him. He rather wanted to take advantage of Jesus life, personality and ministry to advance his personal interests. Jesus being God and therefore knowing all things turned him down. “As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”” Luke 9:57-58.

After that, they saw two other men whom Jesus had interest to work with closely in his earthly ministry. He therefore extended a call to them, so that they could follow him. The first excused himself because he wanted to pay a last respect to his own dead close one. But Jesus responding asked him to allow the dead to bury themselves. When he extend same call to service to another, that second individual sought permission again to go and say goodbye to his family and loved ones, then return to obey him. Jesus made him understand that in the kingdom, once you get involved, there’s no going back to settle any previous or hanging commitments anywhere. ““All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.” Matthew 19:20-22.

“And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him .” Matthew 4:18-20 KJV. Today we need to understand that there are many blesings in following Jesus Christ because some men are still giving him excuses. This they do because they lack understanding of what men stand to gain when they make sacrifices in order to follow the master. Now one important reason for which Jesus asks ordinary men like us to follow him is so that he can make us. Apart from giving us eternal life, there are things he wants to do in our lives, there are heights he wants to take us to in this life which we can’t attain on our own. That’s just one of the numerous gains in following the master. “God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.” 1 Corinthians 1:28-29.

Prayer : Thank you Lord Jesus for extending your call to me to follow you, so that you can make me. As I obey and follow unconditionally, let my life be a testimony that will attract others to you in Jesus wonderful name…. Amen 🙏🏿.

Yearly Bible Reading : John 6:22-40.
