Topic : Need For Men Of Genuine Encounter And Hunger.
Memory Verse: Philippians 3:7. But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.
Philippians 3:1-3 NIV. Key Verse : v3.
Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh—
There are many practical lessons to learn from the life of Apostle Paul. Indeed the encounter he had with Jesus on his way to Damascus, going as usual with letter of authority to arrest and persecute believer in Christ was a turning point in his life. Everything that followed that experience proved the reality of Jesus and the authenticity of the gospel. At that point, his perspective of life and relationship with and service to God changed. Of course, when he was disrupting the work of God and killing believers, he thought he was working for God. But he suddenly realised that he was working against his creator. ”As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. [6] “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” Acts 9:3-6.
The beauty of it all is the transformational change that took place in his life. His old self died and he came alive in newness with Jesus. He really died to self and to the things of this world. That was the major reason he was able to find or receive a new life of glory in Christ. Because of his new found reality, he paid less attention to his personality and previous achievements as a man, so that he could give Jesus Christ, his new found love the best of his life and attention. ”But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.” Philippians 3:7-9.
This mindset of Apostle Paul was key to his great achievements and impact on the new testament Church. He had a strong hunger within him to know and have more of Christ, his new found love daily. The Church of Jesus in our days are in dire need of men who are willing to give their walk with God their best and all. Men of genuine encounter with the man of the cross, who had been there with him. Only such set of people can really live for Jesus because they died and arose with his, which experience alters everything about them including their identity and crave for self esteem. ”Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do. For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.” Philippians 3:17-18.
Prayer :Thank you Lord Jesus for your interest in me that made you die for me. From today, I need a fresh encounter with you that will reshape my perspective in life. Plant a genuine hunger for more of you in me through your Spirit in Jesus wonderful name…. Amen 🙏🏿.
