Topic : True Religion.

Memory Verse : ‭Luke 10:33. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.

Bible Reading : ‭Luke 10:30-32 NIV‬. Key Verse : v33.

In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

Jesus Christ was teaching this time and a teacher of the law or a lawyer wanted to tempt him by asking him what he could do to inherit eternal life. Jesus replied, “What does Moses teach us? What do you read in the Law?” The religious scholar answered, “It states, ‘You must love the Lord God with all your heart, all your passion, all your energy, and your every thought. And you must love your neighbor as well as you love yourself.’” Jesus said, “That is correct. Now go and do exactly that and you will live.” Luke 10:26-28 TPT. The lawyer then asked who should be his neighbour. Jesus then had to use the parable of the good Samaritan to explain who a neighbour should be.

The main actor in the parable was a Jewish man travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho when he fell prey to robbers on his way. The robbers mercilessly beat him up and stripped him of every valuable on him. They left him in the pool of his own blood and with life threatening injuries. Two men who were religious leaders passed that route and saw him struggling for his dear life and avoided coming close to help, but passed by the other side of the road. These class of men (the Priest the Levite) by reason of their exposure and training who should known the word of God better avoided getting close to help the needy man. It was only the Samaritan who was considered by the Jews to be outsider to the covenant of Israel that took responsibility and made the much needed sacrifice to save the life of the traveller that he never knew before this particular incident.

“Faith Works My dear brothers and sisters, what good is it if someone claims to have faith but demonstrates no good works to prove it? How could this kind of faith save anyone? For example, if a brother or sister in the faith is poorly clothed and hungry and you leave them saying, “Good-bye. I hope you stay warm and have plenty to eat,” but you don’t provide them with a coat or even a cup of soup, what good is your faith? So then faith that doesn’t involve action is phony.” James 2:14-17 TPT. Today we need understand that true religion is to show care and love just the way the good Samaritan did to a man he never knew. He took the man to the hospital and paid his bills to the last dime, making sure he got proper medical attention at his expense. He was a true neighbour. True religion is demonstrated by love and care.

Prayer : Thank you Lord Jesus for loving and dying to save me. Thank you for teaching me to live like you. Help me to be a true worshipper who loves and care for the well being of others just like yourself. Let my life bless others in Jesus wonderful name…. Amen 🙏🏿.
