ENTHRONEMENT ASSEMBLY DAILY DEVOTIONALS.
Tuesday January 9th, 2024.
Topic : Don’t Be Like Eli And His Children.
Memory Verse: Hebrews 12:6. because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”
Bible Reading :1 Samuel 2:30-32 NIV. Key Verse : v30.
“Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.’ But now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained. The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your priestly house, so that no one in it will reach old age, and you will see distress in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, no one in your family line will ever reach old age.
God had sounded a strong warning to Eli the priest in Shiloh who had no control over his sons Hophni and Phinehas, who was desacrating and degrading the house of God and treating God, his people and the office where they served without respect. Now, God had to send a man of God to warn Eli, so that he could call his sons to order, but he didn’t. In chapter 3, God sent another strong warning through boy Samuel who was innocently serving on the altar then. In all these, Eli couldn’t take advantage of these windows to bring his sons to the point of repentance as to avert the wrath of God. “At that time I will carry out against Eli everything I spoke against his family—from beginning to end. For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons blasphemed God, and he failed to restrain them.”
1 Samuel 3:12-13.
Today, we have to learn not to be like Eli who couldn’t take advantage of the warnings of the Lord to correct his children and put his house in order before the Lord. At the end, they were all consumed by the wrath of God. A man like David as king wasn’t perfect, but he had a heart that is always broken before the Lord in repentance anytime he sins. Even when confronted by Prophets with his mistakes, he humbly takes responsibility and seeks the Lord for his mercies and forgiveness. God comes down hard with pronounced punishment when we fail to take correction or repent. Nineveh is a very good case study. “All persons and animals must wear sackcloth. Everyone must pray earnestly to God and must give up his wicked behaviour and his evil actions. Perhaps God will change his mind; perhaps he will stop being angry, and we will not die!” God saw what they did; he saw that they had given up their wicked behaviour. So he changed his mind and did not punish them as he had said he would.”
Jonah 3:8-10 GNB.
Many people including believers enjoy the promises and blessings of the Lord, but hate his corrective ministry in our lives. We have to learn to embrace not only the sweet promises of God, but also his corrections when they come directly from the Spirit of God, leaders that God placed over us or fellow believers, their placement notwithstanding. “Have you forgotten the encouraging words which God speaks to you as his sons and daughters? “My child, pay attention when the Lord corrects you, and do not be discouraged when he rebukes you. Because the Lord corrects everyone he loves, and punishes everyone he accepts as his child. ”Endure what you suffer as being a father’s punishment; your suffering shows that God is treating you as his children. Was there ever a child who was not punished by his father? If you are not punished, as all his children are, it means you are not real children, but bastards.” believers. Hebrews 12:5-8 GNB.
Prayer :Thank you Father God because the one you love, you will always correct. Today, help me to humble myself before you anytime I am being corrected by your Spirit or you send other men to correct me. Keep me from pride, arrogant and unrepentant spirit all my days in Jesus precious name…. Amen 🙏🏿.
Yearly Bible Reading : Genesis 12:1-9, 17:1-8.
