Topic: Lifestyle Of Service.
Memory Verse: John 13:17. So now put into practice what I have done for you, and you will experience a life of happiness enriched with untold blessings!”
Bible Reading: John 13:14-16 TPT. Key Verse: v15.
So if I’m your teacher and lord and have just washed your dirty feet, then you should follow the example that I’ve set for you and wash one another’s dirty feet. Now do for each other what I have just done for you. I speak to you timeless truth: a servant is not superior to his master, and an apostle is never greater than the one who sent him.
When Jesus was rounding up his earthly ministry as a man, he saw the need to teach us his version of leadership. He began to wash the feet of the disciples and clean them up. When it came to the turn of Simon Peter, he objected thinking that it was himself that should be the one to wash the master’s feet rather. Feet washing was a service rendered by mainly servants and the least people in a household to visitors from distant and dusty places who came mainly on sandals. It was not a job the master in any home used to do. Peter for that reason thought it was wrong for Jesus Christ to wash him, when it should have been the other way round.
But the master himself was out to teach the early disciples including ourselves to live to serve their followers or those God kept under us, unlike what is practicable among the general public or the people out there. “So he got up from the meal and took off his outer robe, and took a towel and wrapped it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ dirty feet and dry them with his towel. But when Jesus got to Simon Peter, he objected and said, “I can’t let you wash my dirty feet—you’re my Lord!” Jesus replied, “You don’t understand yet the meaning of what I’m doing, but soon it will be clear to you.” John 13:4-7.
This incident was used by Jesus to teach us a vital kingdom principle that hovers around service. Jesus taught us by example that we as leaders have to humbly come down from our exalted positions to listen to and meet the needs of our followers just as himself did. We are to pattern our lives and ministries after him. We are to serve others in the kingdom, just the way Jesus Christ himself served his followers in a manner that they were around him freely and shared everything together with him in a friendly atmosphere. That was the reason the people had to pay Judas Iscariot to help them identify him when he was in the midst of his early disciples.
Prayer :Thank you Lord Jesus for teaching me humility and service through your own life and ministry. As I obey, use me to touch, bless and succor many just like the master himself. Thank you for giving me your joy in Jesus precious name…. Amen 🙏🏿.
Yearly Bible Reading : Acts 17:1-15.
