Topic: Extra Oil.

Memory Verse Matthew 25:13. “That is the reason you should always stay awake and be alert, because you don’t know the day or hour when the Bridegroom will appear.”

Bible Reading : Matthew 25:10-12 TPT. Key Verse : v10.

“While the five girls were out buying oil, the bridegroom appeared. Those who were ready and waiting were escorted inside with him and the wedding party to enjoy the feast. And then the door was locked. Later, the five foolish girls came running up to the door and pleaded, ‘Lord, Lord, let us come in!’ “But he called back, ‘Go away! Do I know you? I can assure you, I don’t even know you!’

Jesus Christ used the parable of the ten virgins to paint a picture of what his second coming will look like among believers or those awaiting for his return. Many things always happen between the time of preparation and an event itself. In like manner, as men await the return of Jesus Christ to the earth in his glory, aa he promised, we need to understand what is likely to happen to as many as are involved in the waiting and attendant preparations. “When the bridegroom didn’t come when they expected, they all grew drowsy and fell asleep. Then suddenly, in the middle of the night, they were awakened by the shout ‘Get up! The bridegroom is here! Come out and have an encounter with him!’ So all the girls got up and trimmed their lamps.” Matthew 25:5-7.

In the course of waiting, their level of readiness to receive the awaited bridegroom divided them into the camp of the wise and that of the foolish. The wise came to wait with their lamps lit and carried extra oil, should the waiting stretch longer than expected. On the other hand, the camp of the foolish came with their lantern only without any extra oil. They made no provision for the unexpected. Their preparation was shallow, but they never knew till when it was late. When it was heralded that the awaited bridegroom had arrived and the Virgins were urged to welcome him, the fooling disappeared that their lantern needed refuelling, but there was no extra oil on them. They wanted to make up for their folly by borrowing from their friends, who could not assist them. Finally, they had no choice but to go to buy from sellers at an odd hour when it will take a miracle to get the sellers. Before they returned the door was closed against them. All they efforts they put up became wasted as they were shut out.

The oil here is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. As we await the return of the Lord, we are to keep the oil of our spirit man always at the right level. We have to go extra mile to be on the alert and on fire. We must avoid anything that will quench our fire. Again we have to beware of spiritual slumber as the time gets prolonged. The foolish virgins used the time they would have used get extra oil to sleep. We hto be always at alert and sober as we await his return. “So all the girls got up and trimmed their lamps. But the foolish ones were running out of oil, so they said to the five wise ones, ‘Share your oil with us, because our lamps are going out!’ “‘We can’t,’ they replied. ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. You’ll have to go and buy some for yourselves!’ “While the five girls were out buying oil, the bridegroom appeared. Those who were ready and waiting were escorted inside with him and the wedding party to enjoy the feast. And then the door was locked.” Matthew 25:7-10.

Prayer : Thank you Father God because you are a covenant keeper. Lord Jesus I don’t want to wait in vain. By your Spirit, help me to know areas I need to work on myself. Prepare me by yourself, make me ready for you just like the wise virgins in Jesus precious name…. Amen 🙏🏿.
